Conference on selective abortions held in LUDIANA city

Ludhiana Even as severallaws and acts have been formulated to arrest the menace of sex-selective abortions, to explore their validity a consultativeconference with the leading legal fraternity started here today. Several lawyers participated in the event organised by Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan, under its gender-equality program, Santulan. In the flagship of the sensitization and awareness campaign against the issue, the conference was moderated by a disciple of Shri Ashutosh Maharaj, Deepika Sehgal.
Discussing about the implementation of pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic techniques act for the prohibition of sex-selection, Sehgal, said, “Police and other state agencies have a great responsibility in ensuring an effective implementation of such acts. Still, cases of sex-selective abortions are not registered. Out of 92 such cases registered across India in 2009, only two convictions have been done, out of which one was in Punjab.”t
